Petar is an Associate on the Business Development team working across human and planetary health. He is involved in scouting, assessing, and supporting startups within the BII’s venture programs and serving as an anchor for portfolio companies.

Growing up in Boston as a Bulgarian-American, Petar was immersed in the local life science ecosystem. He earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Tufts University and started his career at AstraZeneca’s Innovative Medicines and Early Development unit, gaining experience in multidisciplinary preclinical oncology R&D. Developing an interest in computational research, he shifted to bioinformatics, contributing to the development of open-source software for biological data extraction at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining BII, Petar investigated the influence of the brain in driving diabetes remission at the single-cell level during his time as a PhD student at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research.

Petar also has a keen interest in the intersection of science and entrepreneurship. He has been active in iGEM as a team founder, advisor, and judge, a Venture Creator Fellow at Novo Seeds, and is currently a core member of REBBLS and an advisor to Nucleate Denmark.
