Matthew Wolfgang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Marsico Lung Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Wolfgang lab studies the pathogenesis of chronic respiratory infection in muco-obstructive airway diseases (CF, COPD, non-CF bronchiectasis). The lab has pioneered novel systems and preclinical models to address the unmet medical need associated with recalcitrant bacterial lung infection. The lab specializes in P. aeruginosa and S. aureus biology and antibiotic tolerance. Dr. Wolfgang has extensive experience leading international multidisciplinary teams consisting of microbiologists, clinicians, informaticists, and lung biologists. The Wolfgang Lab has a strong track record of continuous funding from NIH, foundations, and industry partners.
