Markus is our CTO and is responsible for our science and technology strategy and for ensuring access to state-of-the-art infrastructure for the start-ups at BII. He holds an M.Sc. in Engineering Physics and Mathematics from Aalto University in Finland and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Markus has experience both from startups (Synthetic Genomics, Inc.) and from academia (the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability). He specializes in developing both digital and physical infrastructure for life science.
