The four companies in spring run of the Business Acceleration Academy have just finished the three-day boot camp that kicks of the three months program. During the boot camp, the companies have gotten to know each other, practiced their pitches and had feedback from +20 experts in areas such as business development, IP and financing.
Recombiotics is one of the start-ups in the BAA. They make biology easier by creating laboratory automation for the biotech industry and we asked their CEO, Vilhelm Krarup Møller, to give his reflections on the experiences at the boot camp.
The next run of the Business Acceleration Academy starts in September 2019. Apply latest March 19 to join.
Bootcamp reflections
My name is Vilhelm and I am the CEO of Recombiotics. Until recently, I studied a master’s degree at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), but I have put my studies on hold to ensure that our company can get the most out of the coming three months.
We decided to join the Business Acceleration Academy, as we see it as the best possible opportunity for us to grow our company with help from great mentors and potential future costumers. Here are my reflections on the three-day boot camp, that kicked off the program.
Day 1: Welcome, inspirational talks and networking
The first day was a fantastic start to the boot camp. The atmosphere was great, and we were inspired by different speakers who talked about their start-up journeys. During dinner, we got to know them in a more relaxed setting, and it was a great opportunity to get their advice on our company. We wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get sparring from them if we had not been part of the BAA.
Day 2: Pitch, pitch, pitch
Day 2 was a long and hard day of pitch training. We got a lot of feedback on how to pitch our company, and the many changes underway was a pressure test of how our team works up against a deadline. By the end of the day, we practiced in front of a board of experienced entrepreneurs and mentors and in the evening, we socialized with the other teams and felt that common start-up spirit, although I didn’t completely understand their projects yet.
Day 3: Priceless networking and sparring session
We had an intense start to day 3 as we pitched to a room of +20 people; investors, mentors and experts within law, intellectual property, finance, funding, business development, product development and more. This was followed by a speed dating session with the advisors to identify and improve weaknesses in our business. It was tough to hear so many of our assumptions being challenged, and we now have our work cut out for us with all the great input we received. Although the advisors were a lot tougher on us than we previously have experienced, it was all constructive feedback and very valuable. I am positive that their input will help us strengthen our company.
On March 18, we start the on-site program at BII, I am sure we will have a lot to do. We hope that the BAA can improve our business model and create a stable foundation for creating a well-functioning company.
