BII and CBS Board for Education want to foster the next generation of board directors in life science

BioInnovation Institute (BII) and CBS Board for Education have co-created a new board education program targeting life science start-up board directors, business owners and executives in biotech start-ups.

The board education will draw on the experiences of a faculty of high-profile persons in the life science industry and from start-up companies operating in the field.

“Through learning from the knowledge gained by current executives and board members in start-ups, our goal is to tailor an education that can showcase and highlight models and tools regarding the board’s role, best practices, dilemmas and challenges. Ultimately, promoting value creation and sustainability in the life science industry,” says Jens Nielsen, CEO at BioInnovation Institute.

During the education, the participants will take part in case-based learning processes in a peer-to-peer teaching format where professors, experienced chairs and board members will inspire and challenge participants on their experience, knowledge and considerations.

According to Jens Nielsen, you should not underestimate the value of a great board member’s role in strengthening the life science ecosystem.

“Based on data, we find that companies with professional boards are able to grow faster and bring forward better and more relevant market opportunities. It is crucial that life science start-ups get a place where they can gain more knowledge about the company governance system, risk management, board dynamics, etc.,” says he.

The program is primarily thought of as an offering to Danish and Nordic life science start-up board directors but could be highly relevant for everyone with an ambition of working professionally with board work in a life science start-up. It could be, for example, venture capital managers, family offices, or life science advisors who already have a close connection to the life science start-up ecosystem.

Led by a world-class faculty team of six experienced professors, board chairs and advisors, participants will work with seven cases during the two days focusing on the most important issues and challenging tasks and dilemmas faced by the board of directors of life science start-ups.

The following persons are teaching during the education: Jens Nielsen, CEO, BioInnovation Institute • Sten Verland, General Partner, Sunstone Life Science Ventures • Tom Jacobsgaard, CEO, Board Leadership Society and CBS Board Education • Henrijette Richter, Managing Partner, Sofinnova Partners • John Haurum, Synklino Chairman of the board, CatalYm GmbH • Steen Thomsen, Professor, Copenhagen Business School • Hans T. Schambye, President & CEO, Galecto, Inc. • Claus Olesen, CEO and Co-founder, STipe Therapeutics

The educational program will take place at CBS Board Education’s premises in Porcelænshaven at Frederiksberg from 27-28 April.
