10 Spin-Outs from Danish Universities Pioneering in Biotech

One of BII’s essential missions is to bridge the gap between academia and industry through close collaborations with the tech transfer offices at Danish universities. We are incubating many spinouts with great potential to impact human and planetary health positively. We decided to highlight ten of them.

Commit Biologics is a spin-out from Aarhus University and has developed a novel platform technology to harness the power of the complement system, a vital part of the innate immune system. With a unique mechanism of action, the technology can potentially create a new type of immunotherapy for treating various cancers.

BioHalo is a spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark. Their primary mission is to develop bio-based materials that are safe and eco-friendly replacements for harmful PFAS forever chemicals in various industrial formulations without compromising performance.

TriptoBIO is a spin-out from the University of Copenhagen developing a high-value plant compound production platform focused on triptolide to liberate the world from rat poison.

Ousia Pharma is a spin-out from the University of Copenhagen focused on developing novel peptide-drug conjugates for treating cognitive disorders and metabolic diseases. The company utilizes a targeting approach in which peptides are used to deliver modulators of synaptic plasticity to the brain.

Loma Therapeutics is a spin-out from the University of Copenhagen and offers novel immunotherapy against HPV, which has the potential to treat all HPV patients and outperform competing immunotherapies in development.

Myco4Food is a spin-out from Aalborg University and develops a scalable bioreactor system for solid-state fermentation. This fermentation platform technology aims to increase circularity within the food and agricultural sectors. The result is protein ingredients that match animal-based protein regarding taste, nutrition, and cost.

BioOmix is a spin-out from the University of Southern Denmark and develops microbial solutions to problems in the agricultural, food, health, and environmental sectors.

Notify Therapeutics is a spin-out from Aarhus University and offers a novel approach to fertility treatment targeting the hormone-independent phase of ovarian follicle development.

FÆRM is a spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and provides an enzymatic solution for plant-based cheese, translating dairy practices to legumes in cooperation with dairy plants

SOLID Therapeutics is an early-stage oncology company based on research at the University of Copenhagen and expertise in metabolite GPCR structure-based drug discovery in the Schwartz-Frimurer labs at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research with deep insight into the cell biology of the tumor microenvironment in the Falsig Petersen lab.
