On June 19, Robert G. Urban, former Global Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation will visit BioInnovation Institute at the popular event series ‘Talks at the Square’ to give a talk on “The Art of the Start: Transforming Discoveries into Solutions.”

Robert G. Urban has over 25 years of international experience in the healthcare industry. In 2018, Robert retired from Johnson and Johnson as the Global Head of Johnson & Johnson Innovation, LLC. – a distinct business unit of J&J that serves as the company’s enterprise-level externally facing R&D investment platform. While at J&J Robert was a member of the R&D Management Committee (RDMC), the group chartered to oversee the allocation of the company’s $10B annual R&D budget. Under his leadership, the J&J Innovation brand and global platform was launched and became the #1 recognized cross-sector (pharma, medical device and consumer) innovation leader with a portfolio encompassing over 400 individual investments, including a globally distributed suite of incubators (JLABS) hosting over 300 start-ups and collectively generating a risk adjust enterprise value of over $5B. Today, Robert also sits on the Board of BioInnovation Institute.

About Robert G. Urban
Prior to joining J&J, Robert was the founding Executive Director of the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); an academic institution that has launched over fifty MIT start-ups since its opening. He was previously the CEO of Acretia Inc., a privately held intellectual property arbitrage organization, and has also held founding and executive positions at ZYCOS Inc. and Pangaea Pharmaceuticals. Robert has served on the Board of diverse companies and not-for-profit organizations. He has in-depth experience in global organizational management, healthcare product development and fundraising. Robert holds both bachelor and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas System and was an Irvington Fellow in Structural Immunology at Harvard University.

‘Talks on the Square’ is an event series by BioInnovation Institute (BII) with a key focus on spreading ideas and knowledge in life science entrepreneurship to inspire researchers to bring science out of the lab and into the economy.
