Model-MI
The purpose of the Model-MI project is to generate a validated and scalable human placenta model on-chip as a safety/toxicity tool for drugs taken by women of childbearing age. By developing a cutting-edge tool for safety testing, the project aims to lower risks for medications taken during pregnancy. The model also has the potential to be used for drug development against placenta-associated diseases.

“There are no reliable models to assess drug safety in pregnancy — a gap leaving women and their children at risk. Model-MI introduces a new approach to model the placental interface, at a time when regulatory agencies are recognizing new model systems to advance drug safety and development”
