BioInnovation Institute and CBS Executive are presenting the opportunity to get a taste of life science entrepreneurship in a one-week summer school in Copenhagen in August 2021.
The purpose is to raise awareness amongst European postdocs and young researchers of how to take great science from the lab to the first investment round.
In the one-week program, the students will get an overview of key aspects of commercialization and planning of innovative projects within bioindustrials, health tech and therapeutics. Through casework, they will get a chance to put their learnings into practice and they will meet highly skilled venture capitalists from BII’s network such as Eir Ventures, PreSeed Ventures and Sunstone Capital.
“Casework and pitching are important components of the course to give the students hands-on experience. We want to take the students through the whole commercialization process, from what drives innovation to understanding the intellectual property rights and from developing the key components of the business plan to investor pitches”, explains Scientific Developer at BII, Johanna Roostalu who manages the Summer School in collaboration with CBS Executive.
There are 40 spots available and BII expects to attract young researchers interested in entrepreneurship from local and European universities. The students will gain a good understanding of how they can begin to incorporate the translational mindset into their research and get insights into how working with differentiators and milestone plans is powerful.
“Combining the expertise from lecturers such as Palle Høy Jakobsen from CBS Executive with the hands-on experience of industry presenters and BII’s Business Development team, we have created an inspiring program of very high quality”, says Johanna Roostalu.
The BII Summer School will be hosted at BII’s facilities in central Copenhagen to give the participants a look into the entrepreneurial environment at an incubator and the students will meet several of BII’s portfolio start-ups.
“Besides the basic understanding of translational innovation and business development, the BII Summer School will present a unique opportunity to start building a strong network across borders in the entrepreneurial life science ecosystem”, says Johanna Roostalu.
